NEW MEDIA + NEW CRIME

At the end of the world war –I the importance to the access of information was realized, but nothing much was done to increase its circulation among general masses and to device a system which can result into its full flow. It was in the hibernating period between the first and the Second World War that the U.S army thought of devising a system of circulating classified information within the walls of pentagon, with linking various sources of information, and thus helping in its flow without any leakage. The world war – II ended with unparallel damage to humanity, but with the victory of allied forces the countries of Eastern Europe and America breathed relief, suddenly information about the whole world became very important. The media till then was shackled in the walls of a geographical boundary, but now it needed to break open its walls and analyze every happening in the world. The urge to globalize the circulation of information was found to be the need of the moment and was seen as the weapon to fight another such war of mighty scales.

The advent of internet from the lab of the U.S army was the most important aftermath of the world war, creating a craze for accessing information as a feed of globalization, and processing it for profit purposes. Suddenly, after the globalization of information and media, the world wanted to see the whole array of knowledge and opinions through a new eye, the eye of the internet. The knowledge available in the net was marketed with the flavours of entertainment and provided the new dimension of digesting knowledge. Suddenly, the whole act of accessing information changed its value from being a noble profession to an act of transaction, people suddenly started subscribing for knowledge rather than reading it. The amount of stake involved in media grew to an exorbitant scale resulting into a big bang of making profit from the knowledge seekers of the modern world. The value for money in the converging of information resulted into acts of piracy, patient copying, label infringements which in turn resulted into creation of a parallel business world supplying knowledge at a very cheap rate but at humongous volumes. Thus through a revolution of rights but with an intention of profit, a new kind of crime was created as a Robin Hood of salvaging knowledge. New crime is created as a substitute of rented knowledge which made knowledge lay in the hands of few who had money and were well fed, but knowledge was deprived off the sons of the lesser gods, who had no money or the way to shout out their rights for knowledge and nor the way to know about it.
