manipal & me....(1)

Manipal & me.....

The society around us is made with the people we live with, meet, and interact in our day to day life. In manipal the people I live with is my friends, and roommates, but in other shade competitors. We go to the same collage, study the same curriculum, and participate in common events. We are pitted against each other every now and then; we are competitors in collage and friends outside its walls. This unique behaviour among us, is one reason that the life in manipal is so dynamic, spontaneous, and never stagnant. Everyone of us know each other’s strength and weaknesses still we never use it to our own advantage, manipal has for the first time provided me with the taste of “share and live” concept in my social life, and has made me more open and free towards life. Here we share our joys and sorrows among each other and seek solace in each other’s support. It is amazing to think that the persons whom I never knew some 7 months back have suddenly become so integral part of our daily lives, that actually we miss their presence when we go back to our hometowns where we have grown up among friends and families. The emotional bonding between persons and the creation of trust is the soul of the life in manipal. I don’t know if in manipal one finds friends for life or not, but they do definitely find unforgettable friends.

Manipal is like any other towns in India, but the speciality about manipal is not its amenities, but for whom the amenities are created. In manipal, every supply is reciprocative to the demand of the students. It is hard to believe that a small town like manipal, in the outskirts of udupi has some 7 nightclubs in all, and one of them running till 4 in the morning. Even in my hometown, Kolkata which is a metropolitan it is hard to find a nightclub which keeps its door open till 4 in the morning. The reason for this is the demand of the town is the demand of the students, the shops, the game parlours, the ice cream bar, the restaurants, the whole administrative system of the town is subtle modelled for the students, according to their wants. May be Manipal is the only town in India, which is tailor made for the students, keeping in mind how they think, what they want and how they desire various think. Manipal is an university city where the business of education has seamlessly converged with a perfect environment tailor made for the students, to make it more lucrative in one hand, and satisfying on the other.

manipal & me....

Manipal & me...

Life’s a masquerade party, and I didn’t get an entry in it!!”

- Jim Morrison.

I came here in manipal 7 months back, with new aspirations, new dreams, and new hopes. After spending my childhood in the holocaust environment of a metropolitan city like Kolkata where the procrastination of people have intermingled with their urban lifestyle to form an amalgam of undefeatable desires, taking away their peace and adding more in the urge to want and desire more. Manipal is a student operated university town, where everything is operated for the students, or by the students of the university. It’s like the Oxfordshire Township on the outskirts of England, where the natural beauty is in a peaceful harmony with the urge to learn. Manipal was a place which promised free thinking, and free flow of thoughts, but more importantly no boundaries created by manmade procrastinations. After 7 months, I understood it’s not manipal, or any other town in which I seek solace, because the solace of my soul actually rests within the limitations of my own self, and when I break that I am free, and rational, which I always wanted to be. There is no city which is different from each other in their social structure, because a city of free thinking, and rationality Is not possible, not here, nowhere because the procrastination for a better life, is present wherever we are present, because we are the ones who add the fuel to procrastinations, and our bonded souls are the food of its desire.

Starting from today I will write how I saw manipal, in the beginning, and how it changed, giving new hopes, breaking the old ones, making me more mature from within and sharper from outside. I will say what I saw, and what I really felt about the place, and how we all here coped with it. At the end manipal is a town with lots of colours, but spontaneously volatile environment which dynamically keeps on changing, giving out various lights .

A TRIBUTE TO MY STAR....

Immortality – love, trust, death, tragedy, life, and the love beyond.

definition of divinity- love is always patient and kind, it is never jealous, love is never boastful nor conceded, it is never rude or selfish, and does not take offence and is never resentful, love takes no pleasure in other peoples sins, lies and delights the truth, it is always ready to excuse, trust and hope, and to endeavour whatever comes.

Prelude -

The summer wind blew

With resonance of time

And played with her hair

Like kids for a while

Her eyes were dry

Her lips were stuck

Still she had the power,

To move ahead in the path

She was tired,

With the heaviness of her life

Still she had the fragnance

To emancipate all minds.

A boy stood on the corner

Of the of the dark dirty road

And hated everything

Which came on along

He made up, what was his

And held on it

As if it was not his

He never dreamt, he never desired

All that he thought

Was filled with fire

He hated and feared

All that he could think

He was complete

But incomplete from within

Then, he saw a motion of light

She was broken

But complete from inside

She walked down the road,

With an innocent resolve in her eyes

She had all the hope

On which he would live his life

She stood on the shade

To take a breath,

Her breathe was so pure

That it could not be faked

She looked up at him

And gave a forgiving smile

Her smile had the power

Which broke the shackles of time

His unforgiven soul

Was relieved of its pain

He was ready to forgive himself

It was her soul

It was her eyes

With her purity

She blocked all lies

Love was born

From the cradle of lies

Still it was so pure

That it would endure the time.

She looked up at him

With trust in her eyes

Which he has searched

But never could he find

He was swept away

By her trust

Which pierced his mind and broke him in parts.

He stood there

Immaculate by her eyes

Then, she was gone

As the swift winds reached the heights.

The trust of her eyes kept burning his insides.

The search for his life has now end

All that was there turned to fake

He now knew the meaning of life

Life is to live but not to fight with lies.

The love never stopped, the reasons never faked

All that he feared, he resolved himself

Now he could stand without any fear

Because the trust in her eyes

Has made it all clear

Time never passed, her trust never feint

In her love

He lived again.

He held her hand in the dark sunlight

The world was numb, but he was alive

The world was so true

Because of her eyes

As it was too true

In the world of lies

In her love, he won against the time

He was not alone

In the race against time.

He never kissed, he never said

Without her dreams

He was so vague

All his faults, all his vile

Died a death

In front of the love of her eyes

She was there, in his heart

Seasons soon changed

And they were together.

They went for a walk

Down the unknown street

All that was called

Could never be reached

The lies of love which tormented his soul

Slowly blew away

And love was alone.

She was there as the brightest star

And illuminated his sky

With the love of hers.

Their love is pure,

Their love never lied

In their innocence

God rested for a while.

He held her hand, and took a dip into her eyes

There he lost the count of time

Time now passed with an eventful flow

The essence of their love made it slow

The beauty of their love was at its peak

So much love, in one life of his.

Time now stopped for a while

And showed its fangs of truth called life

Her love was true, her trust was tight

But she has to go to the land of lights.

They now walked with love behind their eyes

She was tired with the agony of her life

She now broke, with the truth of her life

She has to end the journey of life.

Her eyes were full

With the tears of her eyes

She was ready, but had no time

All that they thought, all that they vowed

Was not enough, to hold her through.

The bond of love, was enslaved in pain

The truth of life was too tough to reign.

He was lost, he was stoned

The voice of life

Was too harsh to roll

But now he has changed

With the touch of her life

He can’t hate, but love his life

So he thought

If death has to say

He will make his love, stronger than death.

All her dreams, all her desire

Was now his

Still his mind retires.

He asked her love,

What does she need,

Which will fulfil the love of his

She looked up at his eyes

And then gazed for a while

In that gaze hid the mystery of life,

She gave a smile, and gave him a hug

In her touch was the love of hers.

A tear now rolled down her eyes,

And she said her love needs no sacrifice,

Her love was full, her love was her delight

In his happiness

Her love will live another life.

She now asked him to live a life

Without knowing, she was the essence of his life.

But, he has to live

To see the wrath of time

He has to be strong,

To see the death of his life.

Then she was gone

Like the unseen wind

And left him the memories to cherish within

The loss of his love

Emptied his mind

All that was left

Were the figments of time

She was his soul

She was his life

She was his dream

Which he dreamt for his life

The trust was gone

The hope was crucified

But the light of her love

Burned his insides.

Now he stood alone to the world

And walked by the path

Which was bruised and dark

The memories of her

Ignited his soul

All that he thought

Was in her control

She was gone

In the draught of time

But in his heart

She will live

Till there is time.

To the world she was dead

But in his mind

She was wide awake.

Death can take the body from its soul

But essence of her truth

Will live all along.

In his words, she will live

In his rhymes she will breathe

Death is a desire

Of her purified soul

In his songs she will live all along

She is gone

For a while

In order to return

With the life out of life.

Her bones have decayed ,

Her body is grey

Her purity is intact

Forever to stay.

In her death, she has immortalized

All those who love

Is never alone inside.

I thank the girl who loved chocolate milkshake, and Cadburys perk, for making me able to write these lines

You will live forever

As a star ,

Near the moon

As its last tear of sacrifice.

From my prized memories-

Sayan mazumder

Love never dies, the story never ends

Because when love is true

Its immortal itself..........................

NEW MEDIA + NEW CRIME

At the end of the world war –I the importance to the access of information was realized, but nothing much was done to increase its circulation among general masses and to device a system which can result into its full flow. It was in the hibernating period between the first and the Second World War that the U.S army thought of devising a system of circulating classified information within the walls of pentagon, with linking various sources of information, and thus helping in its flow without any leakage. The world war – II ended with unparallel damage to humanity, but with the victory of allied forces the countries of Eastern Europe and America breathed relief, suddenly information about the whole world became very important. The media till then was shackled in the walls of a geographical boundary, but now it needed to break open its walls and analyze every happening in the world. The urge to globalize the circulation of information was found to be the need of the moment and was seen as the weapon to fight another such war of mighty scales.

The advent of internet from the lab of the U.S army was the most important aftermath of the world war, creating a craze for accessing information as a feed of globalization, and processing it for profit purposes. Suddenly, after the globalization of information and media, the world wanted to see the whole array of knowledge and opinions through a new eye, the eye of the internet. The knowledge available in the net was marketed with the flavours of entertainment and provided the new dimension of digesting knowledge. Suddenly, the whole act of accessing information changed its value from being a noble profession to an act of transaction, people suddenly started subscribing for knowledge rather than reading it. The amount of stake involved in media grew to an exorbitant scale resulting into a big bang of making profit from the knowledge seekers of the modern world. The value for money in the converging of information resulted into acts of piracy, patient copying, label infringements which in turn resulted into creation of a parallel business world supplying knowledge at a very cheap rate but at humongous volumes. Thus through a revolution of rights but with an intention of profit, a new kind of crime was created as a Robin Hood of salvaging knowledge. New crime is created as a substitute of rented knowledge which made knowledge lay in the hands of few who had money and were well fed, but knowledge was deprived off the sons of the lesser gods, who had no money or the way to shout out their rights for knowledge and nor the way to know about it.

2009:- just another year in the unchanged odyssey of time

Every year the government promises the next year will be better than the previous and it will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. Every year the city council promises that this year the roads will be smooth and their won’t be any water logging during the monsoon. Every year the state government says that it will surely put its red face up and the unemployment and poverty levels will go down, and we will see a better and cleaner state. Each year many promises are made and none are kept, and human beings’ being a hopeful race hopes that the next year everything will change and all that which is not working will suddenly start working again. 2009 as a year in the history of the world was no different, as politicians, bureaucrats, entertainers; icons all promised and seldom remembered it at the end of the year.
The year of 2009 will be termed as the year of “HOPE” a year when a black candidate preached the bible of hope to his fellow Americans and won the heart of the world with his message of hope for a better future. He promised to give America a liberal president who would provide the world an environment where all can grow without harming each other. He proposed peace and equality to the world. He promised a greener and cleaner tomorrow, and the world hoped that at last someone has arrived who will realize their hopes. But as he took his crown America suffered its worst recession in the recorded history, and the hope he promised looked bleak again. Unemployment rates increased throughout the world as markets and economies crumbled around the world. The sound of the hope of change was soon very harsh on the pleasant ears, and president Barrack Hussain Obama was forced to give his people a substitute for their miseries in life. He also as his predecessors have done started promoting the warm air of another war, which will help to keep their miseries at bay. The soldiers who were taken back in the beginning of his term was soon sent back with twice of their volumes. The president who promoted hope soon seemed to promise of a hope which is less known by. At the end of the year when the earth- water summit was held at Copenhagen the president of hope and the emblem of peace for this year, sounded president again, and proclaimed his authority over the world. The promise of hope was forgotten and was short lived.
This year was also very hopeful for the homosexuals around India, as the supreme court of India passed section 377 giving rights of equity in the society to them. The country grew up from the shackles of conventional beliefs and thought and was ready to take homosexuals as the part of the society. So as Dostana spread more Dostana than necessary the potholes still troubled the fellow travellers, the country still sulked over the sparse monsoons, people around the country still bribed their way out, and the pipes still leaked and water was hard to be found at certain places. India grew up as a country which had place for thought of conservation of equity, but has no fuel for restoring smooth running of its own system.
This year also saw a new ray of hope for the Indian entertainment industry as A.R REHMAN bagged three Oscars for his music in the British – Indian film slumdog millionaire. Soon the story of a slum boy or a slumdog according to the director Danny Boyle who wins a television game show to change his life and become a millionaire became the national film of India. The British claimed it to be their film; the Indians shouted that it is their work which is again being stolen by their imperial rulers. The political parties sang jai ho! As the party tried to establish its mark in the heart of the voters. Amidst all this some Indians felt that the film actually had insulted the slum dwellers by calling them dogs and have exploited their miseries for profits. The slum dwellers on the other hand was delighted because they were shown in a film and prayed for the grand success of it in the box office. Such was the situation that the film was lost in the comedy of Indian conflicts.

This year was also a year when lot of stars fell off with a blaze, the king of pop Michael Jackson died this year, ending his mysteriously glamorous life. His life was full of shadows, questions, and confronting controversies but was filled with the passion and urge of continuously creating something different and something new. In his life he taught people to live for hope through his songs, his words. But in his death also he was surrounded by controversies such is the tragedy of today’s life.
The year went by and the world progressed materially but though hope became a stale word, it still is the word which can bring about the change. I wish to see a world this New Year which not only hopes and stops, but hopes and does. Then and only then things will move, and change. This year I wish to see a world where people will stop by passing faults and see their own faults and change them and correct themselves so that they are answerable to themselves and not expecting answers from others. Lastly I wish to see a world where people will trust each other to create a brotherhood and an environment where all can grow with each other, being each other’s support.
So I adieu the year 2009 for a change of resolve, and wish to see the country progress staring from my contribution. So I wish all of you a work full New Year .
